The Karratha Health Campus was part of the overall strategy for the WA Country Health Service (WACHS) to provide the West Pilbara region with a more effective service for both emergency and ambulatory health care, through the development of a new hospital and health facility in Karratha.
The project delivered a modern, purpose-built facility that was designed to facilitate patient-centered care which is underpinned by contemporary models of care. The new Campus boasts an expanded emergency department, surgical centre plus a maternity wing and delivery suites. Essential services such as medical imaging and world-class telehealth services are also incorporated into the facility, along with a new outpatients’ area.
Improvements to infrastructure along with new patient information systems and a virtual workforce provided by telehealth and Emergency Telehealth Services combine to provide the best possible care for Karratha and surrounding communities in the West Pilbara. It now operates as an integrated district health service for the Pilbara and continues to support smaller hospitals and nursing posts.
